Nov 1-3 Lightning Strikes
Submitted By Scott Thompson on Wednesday, November 6, 2013
U12P Lightning Strikes Silver in Oshawa.  Richmond Hill’s U12P-West team gave a strong Gloucester-Cumberland (GCRA) team a huge scare in the Gold medal tournament final held in Oshawa recently.  The Lightning’s only loss during the round robin play came at the hands of the GCRA team, who posted an identical tournament record of 3 wins and 1 loss in setting up a rematch of the two teams in the Gold Medal Final.

The Lightning found themselves up 3-1 early in the final frame before the GCRA team netted 3 unanswered goals for a 4-3 win.  The Lightning’s Maanasa Guda led all scorers in the division with 13 points while Goalie Daniela Sokolova posted the lowest goals against average.

Also playing in the Oshawa tournament were the U14P-Thompson and U19A-Turner teams who both missed out on playing in the medal games of their division by 1 goal apiece.  The U14P-Thompson team found themselves in a 3-way tie for teams vying for a birth in the semi-final; where the 4th tie-break rule of +/- goals was used to determine which teams advanced.  The U19A-Turner team shared an identical record with a team from Valley East; however the Lightning had lost 4-3 to Valley East in head-to-head play giving Valley East a birth into the medal final.

In league action, the U10-Lee team defeated Caledonia 7-2 while the U10-Harling team shutout Pickering 5-0.  The U14B-Edward team came away with a win, loss, & tie in weekend play when they lost to Newmarket 6-1 before tying Markham 6-6 and then defeating the Hamilton Heat 5-3.  The U14A-West team bested the Ayr Ice Cats 10-5 while the U16A-McKnight team got past the Mississauga Mustangs 4-1. The U19AA-Craig team dropped a close decision to the London Lynx 4-3.
