Silver Lightning Strikes
Two Richmond Hill Lightning teams brought home silver medals from the 42nd Annual Silver Ring Tournament hosted by the Ajax Ringette Association Feb 7-9. The U16A Lightning team, fresh off their gold medal performance in the Richmond Hill Tournament the week before, found themselves playing in the final of their division. The Lightning has been playing some of their best ringette of the season allowing only 7 goals in 4 games during the tournament. Unfortunately, they came up against a very stingy Arnprior team that frustrated the Lightning attack time and time again in defeating the Lightning 2-1 in the final.
The U12P-West team dropped a 3-1 decision to a strong team from Forest in their division final. Both teams finished the round robin portion of the tournament only allowing 9 goals in 4 games. The Lighting had tied Forest 3-3 during round robin play, but couldn’t get the offense going in the final.
The U19AA team missed playing in the final of their division finishing 3rd while the U14A-Thompson team couldn’t get any offense going in dropping all four games during the tournament.
In other ringette action, the U9-Laughlin team defeated a strong Oshawa team 3-2; both U10 teams dropped decisions to the Whitby Wild with the Harling team losing 6-3 and the Lee team losing 10-5. The U12P-Zanon team dropped a pair of games to the Cambridge Turbos 6-2 and 8-3. Scoring for the team Zanon was Madeline Angaran with 2 goals while Kailey Howell, Gaby Damien and Kaylin Joy added singles. The U14B team Halted West Muskoka's 4-game winning streak with a 4-0 shutout by goaltender Jocelyn Langlois and the solid defensive play of Lauryn Edward, Madelin Gennaro and Marisa McRae. Goal scoring came from Maija McGraw, Jasmine Hamilton and Marisa McRae with a pair on set ups from Lina Kohandani and Julia Turner. The U12B team lost 9-4 to Etobicoke; the U14AA team lost 7-3 to Missisauga; and the U16AA lost 3-2 to Mississauga. The U16B team split a pair of games dropping a decision to Pickering 4-2 before beating Sunderland 7-2.
