RHRA Ringette Round-up for Nov 7-9
Submitted By Scott Thompson on Monday, November 10, 2014
The U19A team was hoping that their 3 game win streak would help them as they entered their first tournament of the season in London recently.  In their first game they tied Forest 4-4 thanks to goals from Maddie Boyle with 2, Amanda File and Jenny Bedard.

In their second game they dropped a 6-3 decision to the strongest opponent they have faced this season in Exeter-Seaforth.  Scoring for the Lightning were Lisette Schulz, Maddie Boyle and Meg Casbourn.  The team gutted out a gritty 4-3 win over London in their next outing to keep their medal hopes alive with goals coming from Lisette Schulz with 2, Maddie Boyle and Talia Brock with the winner with just over 2 minutes remaining while Erica Priolo played solid in net.  The team then followed up with a 7-4 win over Ayr to advance to the semi finals.  Leading the attack were Lisette Schulz and Talia Brock both recording hat ricks with Kaleigh McGrath rounding out the scoring.  In the semi final the Lightning had to once again face Exeter-Seaforth and jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a goal from Maddie Boyle before dropping a 5-1 decision to the eventual gold medalists.

Also playing in the London tournament was the Lightning Open B-Todd team who opened the tourney with a 3-3 tie against eventual Silver medalists Kitchener.  Erica Ogden scored 2 goals in the opening frame to give the Lightning a 2-1 lead before Kitchener tied the score with 1 second remaining in the frame.  Kitchener took the lead in the final frame before Nicole Morris scored with just over 3-1/2 minutes to play to tie the game.  Stephanie Graham was solid in net in helping to preserve the tie.  In their next game Erica Ogden again staked the team to a one goal lead before penalty trouble allowed London to score 2 power play goals en route to a 3-1 decision.  The Lightning came up flat in their final game dropping a 9-3 loss to eventual Gold medalists Guelph.  Veronica Peacock netted a pair of goals with Julie Simone chipping in the other.

In other ringette action, in a battle of U12 Lightning teams, the U12-Mews team bested the U12-Chamandy team 6-5.  The U10-Laughlin team dropped a 6-3 decision to the Mississauga Mustangs while the U12P-Ianni team was firing on all cylinders in a 15-2 decision over the Burlington Blast.  Sydney Stabler had the hot hand netting 6 goals while Haleigh Beam, Kailey Howell, and Makayla Nunno each scored twice with Kayin Joy and Caden Lee adding singles.  The U14A-West team took down the Newmarket Rays 6-3 at home before heading out on the road to earn a 3-3 tie with the Whitby Wild.

The U14AA-Roman team came up short against Mitchell 3-2 in a pair of home games before earning a 3-3 tie with the Mississauga Mustangs.  The U14B-Giordan team hit the road and was holding their own against a strong Hamilton team tied at 3 at the end of the first half.  Hamilton came out quick in the second half notching 2 quick goals before Christina Tsiolis narrowed the score to 5-4.  Despite their strong effort the team went on to eventually lose 9-4.  Also scoring for the Lightning were Madison Nobes, Vianna Tsiolis and Rhianna Lin.

The U16A-McKnight team once again showed that they have a well balanced attack with six different players scoring en route to a 6-3 win over the Ajax Shooting Stars.  The U16B-Thompson team bested the Markham Bears 5-0 with Erica Siow recording the shutout in goal.

The U16AA-Sarjeant team defeated the Whitby Wild 5-3 thanks to a 3 goal performance from Nicole Cannata and 4 assists from Jada Laliberte.  Strong goaltending came from both Christina Mongillo and Jenni Hearn splitting the duties in net.  The U19AA-Sandercock team was shutout by the Guelph Predators 5-0.
