Elite Lightning Players shine in Prospect Tournament
Six Richmond Hill Lightning U10 Ringette Players were joined by girls from the Burlington Blast and the Mississauga Mustangs to form an Elite regional team to compete against elite players from other regions across Canada in the “Prospects Ringette Invitational”. This years Prospect tournament was held in Kingston, Ontario where the girls played under the banner name of “Southern Region Seahorses”.
The prospects tournament provides elite players an opportunity to play with the best players and improve the level of competition to enhance their ringette skills and to further develop cooperation and teamwork skills while interacting with players from other regions in Canada. The six Lightning prospect players included Katherine Harling, Victoria Harling, Alexia Himelfarb, Taryn Joy, Michelle Pham and Makayla Nunno.
The team was a perfect 4-0 at the end of round robin play after defeating powerhouses from Metcalfe 6-1, West Ottawa 10-7, Gloucester-Cumberland “A” 4-1, and Gloucester-Cumberland “B” 6-3. The girls advanced to the final and a rematch against Gloucester-Cumberland “A” after dispatching Metcalfe 8-3 in a semi-final. The final was a nail biter with the Southern Region Seahorses prevailing 2-1 to capture gold and finish the tournament undefeated.

Winning this tournament was a combination of passionate play and hard work that was further highlighted by making new friends and having fun at the same time.
