U14AA bring home Silver from Sudbury
Submitted By Scott Thompson on Monday, November 28, 2016
Nickel and copper are the primary metals that Sudbury is known for; however the U14AA-Ianni Lightning team was looking for a different precious “medal” during their sojourn in Sudbury recently.

Competing in the 2016 Sudbury Invitational Ringette Tournament the Lightning found that their prospects were good when they staked their claim to a 2-0 victory over the London Lynx before doubling up on the Cambridge Turbos 4-2 and then topped Pickering 8-6 to remain undefeated going into their final round robin game. However, the Lightning was forced to hone in on their extraction technique skills as they removed the ring from their net eight times in an 8-4 loss to Northeast.  The Lightning then had to dig deep to better London 5-4 in a semi-final to advance to the precious “medal” final against the Guelph Predators. The final saw Guelph drill the back of the net 6 times en route to a 6-2 win. However, the Lightning can proudly say that they were able to extract “silver” from Sudbury!

In other ringette action, the U14B-Mews team competed in a tournament in Mitchell that saw the Lightning post an identical record with two other teams vying to advance to the final after round robin play. Unfortunately, the Lightning missed out on advancing once the tie breaker rules were applied.
