2017-18 Provincial - U12P - Ianni - U12P Ianni Wins Silver in Waterloo Ringette Tournament
Submitted By M.Weaver on Tuesday, January 16, 2018

The U12P Ianni team travelled to Waterloo for their second away tournament of the season hosted by the Waterloo Ringette Association on January 12-14.

Our first game of the weekend saw us face City of Ottawa again for the second time this season, and the girls walked away with a first game victory with a final score of 5-2.

Our second game on Friday we faced the London Lynx. A lot of penalty killing went into this game for the girls even going as far as two players down, but the girls battled hard and walked away with four points at the end of the day with another win with a score of 5-1.

On a blistery cold and windy day the team played their third game on Saturday against Metcalfe. The offense came out strong in this game with a final score of 9-2. The girls had just solidified their entry to the finals on Sunday!

On Saturday night the team had a fun filled evening with players and parents in the hotel party room. A Mexican themed potluck of tacos/burritos combined with watching game replays on the big screen and making slime and door signs for Provincials made for a great night!

Sunday morning saw the team getting up bright and early and making our way to the arena for our fourth round robin game in which we faced the Waterloo Wildfire. For the third time this season the team went undefeated in round robin play in the tournament with a solid victory with a final score of 9-0.

The usual pre-finals routine of blue hairspray, nail polish, tattoos and ribbon took place at the arena in between the games thanks to all of the parents helping out.

In the afternoon the girls hit the ice for the finals against London which was a battle until the end. London scored a quick two goals in the first period but the girls tied it up in the second period. Our girls saw a lot of penalties again in this game, at one point being three players down. London kept the pressure on and scored again which would end up being the winning goal for them in the end with a final score of 2-3.

The girls played with such heart given the circumstances – being short a player due to the flu for both games on Sunday and having to play two games on the last day of the tournament while the opposing team only had to play one. They gave it all they had and we couldn’t be prouder of them.

As some of the parents have said, the girls walked out with Silver, but the friendships and bonds that the girls have made, the hotel parties and games – those are golden memories they made together!

With a total of 28 games played up until this point this team has only had 3 losses. They have played in three tournaments and have walked away with three medals. It has been an incredible season so far and the coaching staff and parents couldn’t be prouder of them. They cheer each other on and support each other. They show up to every game giving it their all and have made this a season to remember!
