U12P Ianni Silver Medalists at the U12 Provincial Event
Submitted By Miriam Weaver on Tuesday, March 26, 2019
The U12P Ianni team travelled to Guelph on March 21-24th for the U12 Provincial Event.

The team competed in a division alongside Markham, Waterloo, Kitchener, GCRA, and Guelph.

The Ianni squad got off to a great start on day 1 with a 4-3 win against Kitchener.  This game almost ended in a tie, but with just over 2 minutes left in the game RH would score and take the win!

Day two opened up for the team with a shut out win against Waterloo with a score of 3-0, followed by a win against the host team Guelph with a final score of 7-5.

The next day opened up on the other side of the scoreboard with a tough squad from GCRA coming out and scoring quickly, and taking the game with a score of 10-5.

For their final round robin they would be facing Markham and this game mattered for both teams.  This was a tight back and forth but in the final few minutes of play RH scored some insurance goals and would take the win with a score of 7-4.

With this win the U12P Ianni team finished round robin in first place and earned themselves a berth in the finals.

The finals started off with RH opening up the scoreboard with a goal from Isabel Ianni.  Agnes Laliberte would score next but then GCRA would quickly match those goals.  Agnes Laliberte would put the Lightning up again and they would lead 3-2 going into the second period.  Natalie Applebaum would open up the second period with a goal, but GCRA would do some quick damage and score another 3 to put themselves ahead.  The Lightning would respond with another goal from Isabel Ianni, Agnes Laliberte.  Natalie Applebaum would score with just 4 minutes left of play to put the Lightning ahead, but with just 21 seconds left in the game GCRA would tie it up and they would see this game go into OT.

The Lightning battled in OT but GCRA would score a few minutes in and take the win.  The U12P Ianni team fought hard and were awarded silver.

Agnes Laliberte would finish in the division in first place with 16 points, and Isabel Ianni would finish in fourth place with 11 points.
